Deputy Minister of Economy of the KR participated in a round table in Istanbul on Afghanistan

On January 22, 2015 Deputy Minister of Economy of the Kyrgyz Republic K. Dzhakypov participated in a round table in Istanbul, organized by UNDP Istanbul International Center for Private Sector in Development (IICPSD) in cooperation with Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA) “Roundtable Meeting on Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Tripartite Agfo-food Industry Consortium”.

The above event is a continuation of previously initiated consultations on the preparation and implementation of measures for the participation of the Kyrgyz Republic in international and regional programs of assistance to Afghanistan, the main purpose of which is the use of regional cooperation in Central Asia and strengthening, increased commitment of each of the countries in implementation of recommendations taken during international conferences on Afghanistan.

The purpose of the Roundtable is to discuss strategies for the implementation of the project “Afghanistan-Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan (AKT) Tripartite Agfo-food Industry Consortium” and the formation of the Intergovernmental Committee for the Coordination of subsequent phases, as well as consideration of the draft memorandum, which will be signed later by the parties involved in implementation of the project.

This project was initiated by the United Nations Development Programme and will support inclusive growth in AKT countries, in particular in the framework of this project it is planned to launch a pilot tripartite consortium to develop the potential of agro-food industry of AKT countries, strengthening complementarity and integration of supply chains (chains value added).

The roundtable serves as a platform for exchange of views among potential partners and ideas to be raised during panels will set forth the prioritizing criteria for possible agricultural products and sub-industries for the future feasibility study that is anticipated to be conducted pursuant to the meeting.
