Oncology service hasn't been developed in southern Kyrgyzstan for 20 years, claimed Janek Belekov, M.D., Professor.
In line with the statistics for the last 3 years, the incidence rate for cancers made 73.2 per 100 thousand population, while neglect of cancer patients reached 33%.
“Mortality from malignant neoplasms made 21.3 per 100 thousand population, and only 30% of the patients received a timely special antitumor treatment,” the Professor of Medicine told AKIpress on January 31.
He also focused on low detection, absence of early diagnosis of the disease and the lack of specialized cancer treatment.
Professor Belekov raised an issue of the necessity to equip medical centers with modern diagnostic equipment, upgrade of X-ray facilities and acquisition of modern equipment for radiation therapy.
“This will help the oncology service to provide special cancer treatment to almost half of the population of Kyrgyzstan,” he concluded.
