Nonprofit management resource center opens in Osh State University

Osh, April 8 / Kabar/. On Friday, April 10, 2015 Osh State University will inaugurate a Nonprofit Management (NPM) Resource Center, which will support universities in Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken Oblasts. Rector of Osh State University Kanybek Isakov, the Ministry of Education and Science, university professors, USAID, the East-West Management Institute, and civil society organizations will participate in the event. The official opening ceremony starts at10 a.m. in the Business and Management Department of Osh State University.

This center is the second of its kind in the Kyrgyz Republic. The first has been operating at Kyrgyz National University in Bishkek since December 2013. Both centers are supported by the USAID Collaborative Governance Program. The NPM Resource Centersserve as educational and intellectual hubs for increasing sustainability, offering professional opportunities, and providing informational and legal support for nonprofit organizations. TheOsh State University NPM Resource Center will serve as a platform for guest lectures, conferences, and discussions for students, faculty, and members of the nonprofit, business, and public sectors of Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken Oblasts.

Following the center’s inaugural ceremony, over 20professors and faculty members of local universities will participate in a two-day professional development workshop at Osh State University on April 10-11, 2015. Participants will review two elective university courses: Introduction to Nonprofit Management, and Nonprofit Management in the Modern World. These courses will cover innovative techniques for teaching nonprofit management courses at universities. The Kyrgyz Republic’s Consortium of Universities on Nonprofit Management has developed two out of five planned NPM courses with professors from Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Civil Society Studies. To date, 11 universities in the Kyrgyz Republic offer these two courses for over 550 students.

The Collaborative Governance Program is one of many programs supported by the American people through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). It is implemented by the East-West Management Institute in close cooperation with the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, local and international academic institutions, and civil society organizations.
