Capacity of the Toktogul hydropower plant halved – from 1,200 MW to 600 MW, Uzak Kydyrbayev, Deputy Director General of the Electric Stations JSC, told a press conference in Bishkek on December 29.
Generators and transformers are normal, but 2 turbines were damaged due to wires, he said.
“Our specialists went to China for spare parts. Repair may take 2-3 weeks. We consider import of electricity. Shortage of electricity makes around 6 million kWh a day. We will ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during holidays. Electricity rationing is possible after the holidays,” Deputy Economy Minister Aibek Kaliyev said.
The transformer of the second turbine turned off on December 23 at the Toktogul hydropower plant. The second accident occurred at the plant in the morning of December 28.
Moskovskiy, Jail, Panfilov districts of Chui region remain without electricity due to the accident, Turmush reported.
The transformer was damaged during the accident.
