Mufti of Kyrgyzstan Maksatbek Toktomushev met with Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
Russian Orthodox Church Bishop Daniil, theologian Kadyr Malikov, representative of ethnic Uzbeks in Kyrgyzstan Bahtiar Fattahov and others were invited for the meeting as well.
The Mufti talked about work carried out by the Central Administration of Muslims in Kyrgyzstan, including organization of seminars for imams.
The Chancellor and attendees of the meeting exchanged views regarding inter-religious and inter-ethnic situation in the country, the Central Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan said.
At the press conference given with President Almazbek Atambayev on July 14, Chancellor Angela Merkel said religious situation was reviewed at the meeting with the Mufti of Kyrgyzstan. The agreement was reached concerning improvement of quality of religious education.
“As for radical Islam, we agree it is necessary to train own imams. We have such colleges in Germany. We will strengthen this sphere to make it transparent and open,” the Chancellor said.
