President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev and President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who arrived in Astana on working visit, discussed the situation in Syria on July 12.
"During the meeting, we discussed in details and hoped that the agreement reached between president Putin and president Trump on limited truce would become the beginning of settlement of the conflict," Steinmeier told reporters in a joint press conference with Nazarbayev.
Ceasefire deal that went into effect from July 9 in southwest Syria was brokered by Russia and USA during the meeting of Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump last week in Hamburg.
Steinmeier said he respects the foreign policy role that Kazakhstan has in the region.
