The World Bank approved the allocation of $ 50 million for the Digital CASA project, Ashmambet Amatov, the deputy chairman of the State Committee for Information Technologies and Communications, told today during the public hearings.
He said that the World Bank and the Government of Kyrgyzstan will be the sponsors of the project.
"One of the important components is the construction of fiber-optic communication lines (FOCL). We will have three powerful centers for exchanging traffic. These are Bishkek, Osh and DATA Center," he said.
Amatov said that 50% of the allocated funds by the World Bank are in the form of a grant. About $ 10 million out of it will be sent to the DATA Center, so that operators and interested companies will come. Competition conditions will be developed.
"Some of the money will also be used to attract lawyers and international consultants, " the deputy head of the State Committee for Information Technologies and Communications added.
Digital CASA is a project to create a cross-border telecommunications network that will connect the countries of Central and South Asia into a single digital hub. The project will be launched in 2018.
