A number of residents of Kyrgyzstan's southern regions have offered to move beginning of academic year from September 1 to August 15, Member of the Parliament Ainur Altybayeva said on September 12 during session of the Ar-Namys parliamentary faction.
“Some residents of southern Kyrgyzstan did make a proposal to start the academic year on 15 August since the country has severely continental climate and cold long winters,” the MP said.
She recalled that there are several tent schools in the country, and many schools are in poor condition in general. As a result, they suffer from cold in winter despite the regular heating.
“In order to prolong the winter holidays, it is proposed to move the beginning of the academic year,” Altybayeva explained.
During the plenary session of the Parliament yesterday, MP Dastanbek Jumabekov suggested to move the date to September 15 due to specific climatic conditions of the country, long warm season, lifestyle of the population and the possibility to extend tourist season.
