“We should provide safe drinking water to 425 villages across Kyrgyzstan for 10 years,” First Vice Prime Minister Tairbek Sarpashev said at the ceremony of handover of equipment to rural municipalities and rural water users association on October 30 in Bishkek.
“The water supply projects had corrupted practices before 2010. The projects were not brought to completion. Investors wanted to terminate their programs, but after 2010 we managed to keep them after long-lasting negotiations,” the First Vice Prime Minister said.
The second stage of the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Project finished, the First Vice PM said. “The next stage is water supply for 425 villages throughout the country until 2024. The development strategy until 2024 has been prepared already. We should also set up labs and training centers,” Tairbek Sarpashev emphasized.
Drinking water supply is among crucial tasks of the government, he said.
Tairbek Sarpashev thanked partners and donors for their assistance. “We need to implement several big projects and I want to declare that the World Bank agreed to finance the remaining part of the project. We will bring it to completion,” the First Vice PM said.
Tairbek Sarpashev called upon population of the country to take an active part in implementation of water supply projects.
