Officers of the Ministry of Interior of Kyrgyzstan detained members of an organized crime group engaged in highway robberies and theft of vehicles in the framework of a criminal probe that was earlier launched into kidnapping of a son of the former mayor of Bishkek, Isa Omurkulov.
The police detected that unknown persons stopped Mercedes driven by Bakai Omurkulov on September 3 at night.
“Omurkulov was taken in an unknown direction, where he was beaten and robbed. Lawbreakers seized the man's cell phone, documents, money, clothes and car,” the source in the law enforcement agencies said.
The Isa Omurkulov's son was left in Chon-Aryk village of Leninsky district. Mercedes was found in one of the neighborhoods of Osh City on September 7.
The investigation preliminarily revealed that the attackers made an attempt to hijack the expensive car. They attacked at night and seized the vehicle, and then took it to Osh. When the stolen jeep appeared via media reports, they decided not to risk and get rid of it.
The officers thus arrested the following persons:
- S.S., 27, resident of Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region, previously convicted. He was wanted for committing a robbery in Jalal-Abad region. During the arrest, a pistol with ammunition were found and confiscated;
- A.A., 31, resident of Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region. He was also wanted for committing the robbery in Jalal-Abad region;
- S.A., 24, resident of Aksy district of Jalal-Abad region.
The investigation is being continued.
